Foshan is the backland ofCantonese culture, which belongs to a group of people who are native to regionof southeastern China historically. Cantonese gardening is one of thethree Chinese gardening schools, and is famous for its beautifulresidential courtyards. The traditional gardeners pursued both thefunctionality and aesthetics of the design, and their principles have a strongreference to the landscape design of modern residential community.

佛山中海云麓公馆从自然、人文、生活三个维度分析，采用六个景观策略，将传统广府园林的精髓与现代生活方式有机结合，设计适合于现代广府人居住的社区景观，建立人与自然、传统与现代、生活与美学之间的和谐关系，以期营造一个可持续发展的、能够焕发持久生命力的人居环境。

Cloud Hillsdraw inspirations from nature and excavated cultural essence and humanisticspirit from the local living environment. In order to create a livable communitylandscape suitable for modern Canton residents, six landscape strategies wereapplied to integrate the traditional Cantonese garden’ essence with the modernlifestyle. By establishing a harmonious relationship between man and nature,traditional culture, modern city and aesthetics, a livable residentialenvironment was finally built with lasting vitality and sustainable development.

广府文化基底

Cantonese Culture

传统广府园林是广府文化的具体体现，以水庭为中心、建筑绕庭而建，形成围合式布局形式。建筑与院落采用虚实阴翳的设计手法，利用布局调节明暗过渡，空间层次幽深，形成对比与映衬，极富园林艺术效果。沉稳低调的色彩与朴实无华的格调，是传统广府园林的显著特色，极大程度体现了人与自然的和谐统一的宇宙观。

Foshan is the backland ofCantonese culture which is represented by the traditional Cantonese gardeningstyle. In most of the local gardens, pond takes the central position, and thebuildings are built around the court to form an enclosed layout. The buildingand its courtyard form a visual contrast between the virtual and the real. Thislayout was used to adjust the transition of light and shade, creating a richerspatial level within a garden full of artistic aesthetics. The combination ofcalming colors and the unpretentious style is the prominent feature oftraditional Cantonese garden, which embodies the pursuit of harmony between manand nature.

围合式组团花园

Enclosed Courtyards

佛山云麓公馆景观设计重构传统广府园林布局，以组团花园作为景观单元，在每个组团花园中，住宅入户空间、架空层、景观构筑物以及景墙等空间要素围绕中间的花园布置。这种布局方式有两个优点。

The landscape design of Cloud Hills reconstructed the layout oftraditional Cantonese gardens, taking clusters as landscape units. Ineach cluster, space elements such as residential entrance space, open floors,landscape structures and landscape walls were arranged around the centergarden. Such layout has two advantages.

第一，建筑与园林融为一体，住宅入户空间与架空层是建筑内部与户外空间的过渡，让业主走出家门就可以感受自然带来的愉悦感。第二，传统园林以水景为景观中心，观赏性大于功能性，空间较为局促；在组团花园中利用开阔草坪、活动平台等取代水庭，使空间更加开敞通透、提高使用率及参与性，满足现代社区生活需求。

Firstly, it makes buildings and gardensintegrated with each other. By this way, residential entrance space and openfloors become the transition between the indoor and outdoor building space,allowing residents to enjoy the nature when they step out of the house.Secondly, different from traditional gardens which take waterscape as thelandscape center and focus on ornament more than function and with more limitedspace, plant clusters use open lawns, activity platforms, etc. to replace watercourtyards, making the space more open to public, increasing utilization andparticipation, and meeting the needs of modern community life.

开阔的大草坪与入户空间连成一体，仿佛家就在公园里 Open lawns were connected with residentialentrance space, making residents feel their home are built in a nature park.

与架空层连接的平台，是居民感受户外花园的最佳场所 The platformattached to open floor is the best place for residents to enjoy outdoorcourtyard views.

利用茂盛葱郁的本地乔木，营造可以遮荫降温的林下空间；广府地区的冬季虽然不长，但温度相对寒冷，园区设置多处开阔的草坪空间供居民冬天晒太阳 Lush local trees effectively overshadeand lower temperature. Although the winter in the Canton area is short, theweather is relatively cold. So many open lawns were built in the garden for residentsto enjoy the sunshine in winter.

园区设置多种类型的水景，有点状的小涌泉，有潺潺的溪流，有开阔的湖景，既能达到降温降噪的效果，又可供居民戏水玩耍 There are various types of waterscapesin the garden, such as fountains, gurgling streams and open lakes. It could help achieve a better cooling andnoise reduction effect, while provide residents with a water playing space.

多层次的空间体验

Multi-level Spatial Experience

借鉴传统广府园林的紧凑布局，设计师在佛山中海云麓公馆的每个组团花园中穿插不同类型的小庭院空间，最大程度增加空间层次和居民的使用体验。在三个互相连接的组团花园中，串联了8个不同特色的庭院空间。

Learning from the compact layout of traditional Cantonese gardens,different types of small courtyard spaces were interspersed in each plant cluster of FoshanCloud Hills, and spatial level was lifted as well as residents' experience to the whole site.In three interconnected plant clusters, eight courtyard spaces with differentcharacteristics wereconnected in series.

每一个小庭院都是中国自然山水的缩影，包括：登亭远眺、高山听泉、临湖赏月、相聚一堂、巨石盆景、庭院戏泉、台地观林、以及山林漫步。这些小庭院形成一个空间序列，高低错落、疏密有致，层次丰富、体验多元。

Each small courtyard is the epitome of China's naturalmountains and waters, including pavilions on higher hills, a stream on the hill, the moon overhead a lake, thehall for gathering together, bonsais made by huge stones, springs in courtyards, forest on the terrace and the footpath in themountain—these small courtyards formed a spatial sequence. They are scatteredrandomly in heights, change orderly in density and with rich levels and diverseexperiences.

传统的广府庭院布局紧凑、层次幽深，具有空间丰富的园林艺术效果 Traditional Cantonese gardens have compactand deep layout, as well as rich landscape art effect.

格调与细节

Style and Details

项目延续了广府园林朴实的格调，在场地中植入地域特征与人文情怀。而在细节的打造上，则采用现代的设计手法和施工工艺。

The project extended the unpretentious style ofCantonese gardens, implanting regional characteristics and humanistic feelings onthe site. Modern design and construction techniques were used to createdetails.

硬质景观设计均延续了传统岭南建筑的特色，采用沉稳低调的色泽和朴实无华的格调。

Hard landscapedesign extended the low-key color and unpretentious style of traditional Ling-nanarchitectures.

无园不石、手法多样，以石代山，意蕴深邃，借鉴广府园林的置石技巧，在手法上进行创新，在项目中多处设置叠石造景，或临水叠石、或孤石成峰，丰富了园区的山水意境。

There are no gardens without stones. Various techniques were adopted to provide aprofound meaning, such as using stones to create rockwork. Drawing lessons fromthe stone setting techniques of Cantonese gardens, new ideas were brought intothe techniques. Many landscape nodes in this project were built with stackedstones, rocks by water, or peaks made of a single rock, which had enriched theartistic conception in the garden.

适应自然气候

Natural Climate Adaptation

为应对佛山的炎热气候，此项目采用了四项设计策略，应对炎热潮湿的气候特点。

To acclimate the hot weather in Foshan, this project adopted four designstrategies to cope with the local hot and humid climate characteristics.

首先，广府地区夏季主要风向为东南风，可利用夏季风降温防潮，将建筑沿东南方向横向排布，将风引入小区花园；花园布局开敞通透，植物种植疏朗，可最大程度利用夏季穿堂风对小区微环境进行调节。

Firstly, since the summer prevailing wind of the Canton area is southeast wind,it can be used for cooling and preventing moisture. The buildings were arrangedhorizontally in the southeast direction to introduce wind into the communitygarden. The garden layout is open with sparse planting and can be passedthrough, which could maximize the use of summer drafts to adjust themicro-environment of the community.

第二，佛山所在华南区域高温多雨，植物生长茂盛，种类繁多；植物配置多选择茂盛葱郁的本地乔木，包括人面子，秋枫，香樟等，树冠直径可达4-5米，阴影面积可覆盖32%户外空间，可有效遮阴降温。

Secondly, Foshan is located in the hot andrainy southern China, where plants grow luxuriantly and have a wide variety ofspecies. The plant furnishing mostly includes lush local trees such asdracontomelon duperreanum, autumn maple, camphor tree, etc, whose crowndiameter can reach 4-5 meters and the shadow area can cover 32% of outdoorspace, effectively overshading and lowering temperature.

第三，园区内设置多种类型水景，有点状涌泉、有潺潺溪流，还有开阔湖面，可达到较好的降温降噪效果，同时为业主提供戏水观景的空间。

Thirdly, there arevarious types of waterscapes in the garden, such as fountains, gurgling streamsand open lakes. It could help achieve a better cooling and noise reductioneffect, while provide residents with a water viewing space.

最后，广府地区冬季时长较短，虽有个别年份出现霜冻天气，但基本属于干季、降雨较少，晴好天气多，光照充足；园中设置多处开阔草坪，可供业主在冬季享受阳光浴。

Finally, the winterin the Canton area is relatively short. Although there are frosts in someyears, it’s basically a dry season with less rainfall, good weather and plentyof sunshine. So many open lawns were built in the garden for the owners toenjoy the sunshine in winter.

社区生活发生器

Community Life Producer

设计过程中，既考虑了可观、可玩、可停、可游的多功能复合空间，又有针对不同年龄段人群活动的专属空间，设计师用心打造每个功能空间的设计细节，尽可能实现便利性和人性化。

This project isexpected not only to be a multi-functional space that is enjoyable, playableand make people stop-and-go, but also to have exclusive space for people ofdifferent ages. The details of each functional space were carefully created tomake it convenient and user-friendly as much as possible.

这些活动空间的设计提高了人与人、人与自然的互动频率，基于公共空间的复合功能，激活社区运营、恢复邻里关系、共建安全和谐的居住环境。

In these activityspaces, people could interact with others and touch with nature morefrequently. Based on the complex functions of public spaces, the designactivated community operations, restored neighborhood relations and built asafe and harmonious living environment.
